The PM’s Speech

The PM’s Speech

I gaped at the screen in horror. The prime minister was addressing the nation – an unscheduled talk announced just 30 miutes back. It was ten minutes into the speech and my despair grew with every word he uttered. On the screen, he adjusted the mics and hiked his sleeves for the nth time, shuffled through his written speech and, unable to find what he was looking for, gave a dimpled smile to someone offscreen. … Read entire article »

Mere paas Maa hai

Mere paas Maa hai

Since Rahul Gandhi is approximately the same age as me, it would be safe to guess that he watched the same movies that I did in early childhood. The staple Bollywood fare of the 70s, which had a recurring central theme – rich versus the poor. There would be variations of course. It could be the poor mill workers pitted against the unscrupulous tyrant of a mill owner, who often had a side business of … Read entire article »

Elections : A Case Study

Disclaimer – The situation and characters in this case study are entirely fictional and resemblance, if any, to any individuals or organizations is purely coincidental. The company in which you are a shareholder has been having a poor run in the past few years. What had seemed to be a money spinner with promising growth just a few years ago is struggling to even break even. There have been recent instances of some of the senior management being involved in serious misdealings. The CEO, though apparently a very honest and capable person, has not been able to exercise any modicum of leadership to stem the rot that has gripped the company. The water-fountain gossip is that he is merely a puppet in the hand of the family that owns the business. You … Read entire article »

Playing Neta Neta

Playing Neta Neta

Dear Rahul Gee, I am sure you must be quite miffed with Salman uncle. What business does he have to try and force your hand (no, not the party symbol)? What does he mean by trying to imply that you need to take a more active role? Aren’t you doing enough already? What a party pooper. We all saw your earnest efforts in the UP elections. So what if your party lost badly – at least you … Read entire article »

Why this Kolaveri Di – Please ask Harwinder Gee

Why this Kolaveri Di – Please ask Harwinder Gee

Dear Rahul Gee, You did not even need to call an all party meet. Listening to speaker after speaker speaking from either side of the parliamentary divide, it is obvious that the slapgate, or the slapping of Sharad Gee by Harwinder Gee has united politicians cutting across party lines. The last time we saw such camaraderie and solidarity amongst the usually squabbly parliamentarians was after the terrorist attack on parliament. Even then, I guess, it was … Read entire article »

Actions speak louder than words

Dear Rahul Gee, You say, “I am ready to give it in writing that I’ll change the face of the state if you vote the Congress to power. I want to see it as the most developed state,” Wonderful sentiment. and great commitment. But the question that rises in my mind is – why wait for UP to elect your party to power? Your party already have state governments independently and in coalition in many states. Why not let your actions speak louder than words and showcase how these states have performed vis a vis states ruled by other parties? Won’t that sound more convincing – concrete proof of proven track record, rather than dreamy rosy promises of the future? Actually, and unfortunately, the track record is not so encouraging. As per the … Read entire article »
